Obituary of William Morgan Elam

William Morgan Elam, 86, a resident of Mobile, died July 5, 2012 at the William F. Green Veterans Home in Bay Minette, Alabama after a six-year illness. Will was born in Americus, Georgia and was preceded in death by his parents, Howell Cobb Elam and Emmie Morgan Elam of Americus, sisters Mary Pat Elam and Genevieve Elam Reardon. He is survived by his wife, Joan-Marie Parks Elam, sons William (Elizabeth) Elam of St. Sebastian, FL, Robert (Carol) Elam of Runnells, IA, Michael Elam, daughter, Elizabeth (Scott) Elam Croft; stepdaughter Lia (Dug) Frederick of Spanish Fort, AL. stepson, Mark Alan Smith, five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Will was one of the youngest Eagle Scouts in the State of Georgia and he went on to serve Boy Scouting in the Tampa area as his sons actively participated. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII and received an Engineering Degree from Georgia Tech working in the oil industry for 35 years for Pure Oil, Unocal and Chevron.

The family wishes to thank Mrs. Charledia Singleton for loving care while Will was still at home, the staff of the V.A. Home in Bay Minette, especially "G" Wing, and the nurses of Covenant Hospice for their outstanding care and interest. In lieu of flowers the family urges that donations be made to the Boy Scout Troop Venture Crew 3, c/o St. John's Episcopal Church, 1707 Government Street, Mobile, AL 36604. Will was a member or Saint John's Episcopal Church in Mobile and will be buried there in the Memorial Garden on Saturday, July 21, 2012. Family visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m. and the burial office at 11:00 a.m., the Reverend Thomas Heard officiating.
